There are a number of new resources out recently on immigration.
- Economic Benefits of Immigration [1] - This Immigration Policy Center factcheck includes the findings that comprehensive immigration reform pays for itself and that an underground workforce results in lost tax revenues for city, state and federal government. Meanwhile, one-half and three-quarters of undocumented immigrants now work “on the books” and pay federal and state income taxes, Social Security taxes, and Medicare taxes.
- The Obama Opportunity on Immigration Enforcement: Redirect Priorities to Smart Enforcement, Abusive Employers, and Real Border Security [2]. This American's Voice factsheet argues that the amount of money spent by the federal government on border enforcement versus employer enforcement was misplaced and that too frequently, ICE agents targeted workers, not employers or actual criminals.
