MT: Moving to Protect Property Rights

Montana state Rep. Mike Jopek (D) announced today that he will be introducing "legislation, for the 2007 session, removing the ability of state and local government to take private property by eminent domain and give it to private corporations for development." Jopek is being joined in his effort by state Sen. Dan Weinberg (D) and Rep. Tim Dowel (D). The legislation comes "as a response to the June ruling by the Supreme Court in the Kelo v. New London," whereby the court ruled that government could seize homes and give the property to private corporations for economic development.
