CO: The Trailhead Gives Way to a Bizarre Path

The Trailhead is a rightwing Colorado 527 that has raised eyebrows in the past for its close connections to prominent Colorado leaders and some weird behavior. But new evidence reveals its behavior is getting even stranger. The Trailhead has engaged in a number of transactions with other 527s that the other 527s did not report. The net result of most of the transactions is to leave each fund precisely where it started. In other words, it is a fiscal ballet with no real purpose. Far odder is the disclosure of an expenditure of $20,000 to an entity that appears to not exist and that claims to reside at a non-existant address. Fake transactions? Fake addresses? Fake organizations? Something is fishy in the state of Colorado.
