Corruption in Colorado? Follow the Trailhead
Matt Singer on August 3, 2006 - 1:51pm
Don't ask for Colorado Governor Bill Owens to fulfill the state's duties under open records laws. He'll get lawyers funded by private political committees to threaten you in response. Owens, named earlier this year as one of America's worst Governors, is being questioned about his connections to a 527 named the Trailhead Group. A public records request was filed to investigate whether any of Trailhead's funders have benefitted from public contracts under Owens' administration. After these requests were filed with the Governor's office, Trailhead's lawyer personally responded by the promising to harass progressive leaders in Colorado unless these citizens leave the Governor alone. ProgressNowAction, a grassroots Colorado organization, has a different idea: just answer the question. Is Owens' Administration helping powerful donors to a shadow special interest group?
