New York Assemblyman Adriano Espaillat, a member of the Progressive States' board of directors, is working with Senator Nicholas Spano on a bill to allow state labor regulators to hold management accountable for irresponsible actions that drive unions into strikes, even strikes deemed illegal. While labor unions regularly bear the brunt of criticism and punishment (in last year's MTA strike, the blows came from regulators and the media), management officials every bit as responsible for the strike often escape unscathed. This bill will finally make management responsible for its decisions -- a healthy step forward.
